Welcome!

We believe that lasting life change happens best in the context of community.  Each of us can recall a teacher or a mentor who encouraged us and prodded us to make a positive change that led to something great in our lives.  It is the same way with our spiritual lives.   If you are being blessed in our larger Sunday worship environment and want to go deeper in applying God's Word with like-minded people in a smaller environment, then joining a Life Group will be the next step for you. Our Sunday worship environment allows people to COME and meet God in worship while meeting others in fellowship. Our Life Groups allow people to THRIVE spiritually with a smaller group of people who can support and encourage one another. Life Groups also serve as our major launching pad for people to GO and serve the bigger community of Mississauga.

For 2016 we also want to encourage people to explore other forms of Life Groups that can reflect a more natural format.  Here's how it works, you could form a group around a common interest (it could be a common hobby or sports activity) and you can enjoy it together while introducing a little piece of spirituality.  You could have a 2-minute devotion using a key thought from the Sunday message and then pray before you enjoy your activity.  If appropriate, we could explore hosting it in our church building.  Imagine if we begin to see a hockey group, a running group, a cycling group and others.  Let us know if you are interested in doing that.

How Do They Work?

Life groups are gatherings that meet regularly–usually weekly–that are designed to provide an opportunity to Come [find community], Thrive [grow in relationship with Christ] and Go [serve within and beyond the church].

The primary form of Life Group that we have in DC3 is the Message based Life Groups.  This is a group of people up to 12 who meets together once or twice a week to fellowship, study God’s Word primarily by digging deeper into the Sunday’s message.  There are also groups that spend the first 5-10 minutes touching the key points of the Sunday message before they embark on their own topics.

Other Life Groups do life together and integrate some form of activities that can bring Christ into the interaction.

COME

We were meant to do life together, and we believe that community happens best around shared interests and passions.

THRIVE

Regardless of the type of group, the purpose of each one is to create a place where we can grow to become more like Jesus.

GO

Life groups aren’t meant to be insular communities but rather units of the Church on mission from God.

Here are examples of our existing Life Groups:

Message-based Life Groups- they use the discussion notes based from the message.

Book Study Groups- they use a pre-approved book on Christian faith or Christian living for their study.

Women’s Group- they do book-based studies and currently meets on Sundays.

Adult Fellowship Group- they also do the message-based curriculum but are bigger in number [up to 40 at times].

Truth Project- a time bound class doing a dvd-based learning on a recommended topic.

Potential Growth Groups:

Sports interest groups- they do a specific activity [hockey, basketball, volleyball, cycling, etc.] and do organic short devotion or prayer and meet regularly.

Group Essentials

Life Groups meet weekly (and in a few of the groups, bi-weekly) in the home of a host for fun, fellowship and discussion.  A few of our Life Groups also hold their meetings in the church building.

Life Groups meet for approximately an hour and a half.

The Sunday message provides the foundation for the discussion of most Life Groups.  A few of them adds a book study from time to time.

Life Groups also explore ways to serve the community in occasional service projects at least once a year.

Many of the Life Groups accommodate young children.  Child care is based on what the group sees as best for their needs and parents are still ultimately responsible for their kids particularly in the area of disciplining them.

For 2016, we want to see other forms of Life Groups that could revolve around a common interest like sports or hobby.  It could be a basketball, hockey or cycling group that meet together to do their passion and can do a short 2-minute devo and prayer before their main activity.  We are praying that this can create more small groups within our church that can also cater to our friends and family.
